Announcement: Google reCAPTCHA is Getting a Major Upgrade – Here’s What You Need to Know

Most of the websites we’ve developed use Google reCAPTCHA to help protect against spam and bots. Google has officially announced that Classic reCAPTCHA is being upgraded to reCAPTCHA Enterprise under Google Cloud.

What’s Changing

Google is modernizing reCAPTCHA to offer:

• Enhanced and more accurate bot detection
• Enterprise-grade security, analytics, and scalability
• Better integration with Google Cloud’s security tools
• By the end of 2025, all Google reCAPTCHA keys will need to be associated with a Google Cloud project, uniting all of reCAPTCHA under a single set of features, terms, and pricing.

Updated Pricing Structure

With this upgrade comes a change in pricing:

• Free up to 10,000 assessments
• $8 for up to 100,000 assessments, then $1 per 1,000 assessments

• Your current reCAPTCHA setup will continue working for now
• If your website has low to moderate traffic, you’ll likely stay within the free tier
